V projektu bylo provedeno experimentální hodnocení použitelnosti tří reprezentativních českých webových geografických informačních systémů určených pro koncové uživatele. Účelem hodnocení bylo zjistit preference uživatelů v používání ovládacích prvků a jejich rozmístění ve viewportu aplikace, preference ve vzhledu aplikací a nabídky funkcionality. Jako metoda při hodnocení použitelnosti (usability inspection method) byla využita metoda písemného dotazníku (spolu s plněním krátké sady úkolů), která umožnila zapojit do hodnocení vyšší počet hodnotitelů (celkem 165 osob) s relativně nízkými časovými nároky a bez potřeby speciálních zařízení (např. kamery). eng	Preferences of web mapping applications users based on usability evaluation	Today, it is normal to give spatial information to end users with help of web GIS applications. It is necessary to offer an intuitive user interface to these end users. Software quality is defined by standards, such as ISO 9126. One of indicators defined by this standard is usability. Usability is one of quality indicators. Generally usability deals with the application's capabilities to satisfy user requirements. Usability can be evaluated by a number of methods, which are mostly the domain of software engineering, but it can be easily implemented into the relate disciplines such as cartography or geographic information systems. Our project was carried out by experimental evaluation methods of the usability of three representative Czech web-based geographical information systems for end users (mapy.cz, amapy.cz, map service of Pilsen Region). The purpose of this evaluation was to determine the user preferences in the use of controls and their location in the user interfaces of the applications (e.g. location; scale bars, legends, etc.), preferences in design applications (e.g. choice of colours) and menu functionality. As a method of usability evaluation was used written questionnaire (together with a short set of tasks). This approach which allowed to participate in the evaluation of a higher number of evaluators (a total of 165 persons) with relatively low time demands and needs no special equipment (e.g. camera). Evaluators are experts that are able to evaluate given user interface without using of real and users. It is not necessary to train evaluators in GIS problematic. For the above reasons, the application must be intuitive and fully understandable.
