This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, the second oldest faculty of the University of Pardubice.

The Faculty’s history began in January 1991, when the Academic Senate of the then University of Chemistry and Technology adopted a new constitution which foresaw the existence of two faculties: The Faculty of Chemical Technology and the Faculty of Territorial Administration. In the months to follow, prof. Ing. Ladislav Kudláček, CSc., the then Rector, and other representatives of the University engaged in negotiations with the Accreditation Committee of the Czech Government. Doc. Ing. Miloš Vítek, CSc. was appointed by the Rector to be in charge of the Faculty.

The first cohort of 53 students started their study at the Faculty in autumn 1991. The university management secured new premises for the faculty situated near the university dormitories in Building No. 901 (at Studentská 84), and the classes moved there in October 1993. The Faculty’s name changed to the Faculty of Economics and Administration.

Both the number of study programmes and that of students keep growing. At the moment, the Faculty offers a comprehensive study in six Bachelor’s and five Master’s degree programmes (most of which offer specialization pathways). The Faculty offers four PhD programmes in Czech and three in English. A joint degree with a Lithuanian university is offered in addition to a double degree programme with the Dresden University of Technology. This year, there are some 1600 students enrolled at the Faculty.

There are many successful graduates of the Faculty. The first cohort of 48 students graduated in 1994. Last year, 336 students graduated from the Faculty, totalling some 9000 over the 30 years of the Faculty’s existence. The Faculty’s graduates work in the financial and banking industry, for public authorities, in economic counselling as well as in NGOs. Many graduates are involved in corporate management or in the management of regional development institutions, or run their own businesses.

The Faculty is engaged in both basic and applied research projects, which are funded by Czech as well as international grant providers. The Faculty’s projects deal with public administration, IT, regional development and economic growth. The Faculty’s cooperation with the industry has a number of forms; for example, practitioners are involved in teaching, specialised workshops or field trips to partner institutions are organised, internships are offered or diploma theses are prepared specifically for partner organisations.

Over the course of the 30 years, the Faculty has become a reputable faculty of economics in the Czech context as well as integral part of the University of Pardubice. Due to the global pandemic, it is not possible to organise celebrations of the anniversary. Therefore, we look forward to celebrating the jubilee as soon as possible.
