The current era and the related economic and financial market development are essentially a new phenomenon in modern human history. Current development in economies and financial markets are difficult to predict in a time of successive waxing and waning pandemic waves. The development of financial markets is fundamental to the development of economies. The research will focus on the significant economic and non-economic factors related to economic development and regional development, as well as factors affecting selected aspects of financial market development, with a focus on the determinants of profitability and efficiency of primarily banks and insurance companies as fundamental financial market institutions. The contribution of the project will be the identification of factors influencing the development of economies and financial markets in pandemic and post-pandemic times. The research will include activities related to the acquisition and use of data, followed by their analysis using appropriate econometric and statistical methods. Based on the analysis, new key findings will be summarized and key recommendations will be made, leading to an extension of the current state of knowledge.
