At the Faculty of Economics and Administration, it is the Institute of Economic Science that provides the tuition of general economic subjects under the study programmes entitled Economic Policy and Administration and System Engineering and Informatics.
The Bachelor courses of these programmes specifically include the following subjects: Microeconomics I, Macroeconomics I, Public Economics, Introduction to Finance, Public Finance, Economic Policy, Economics of Public Sector and Municipal Finance.
In the Master study programmes the Institute concentrates predominately on the teaching of compulsory subjects such as; Microeconomics II, Macroeconomics II, Economic of Public Sector II, Banking, Financial and Actuarial Mathematics, Tax Theory and Policy, Economic Policy of EU, Insurance Systems, Development of Economic Theories, Space Economics, Mathematic Economics, International Finance and History of World Economics.

Public economics and economy, the economy and financing of local authorities
- the economy of the public sector and the assessment of its performance, the application of system dynamics in the public sector, marketing management in the public sector,
- the economy of public services and the methodology for determining the value of public services,
- the economy and development of municipalities (the evaluation of agglomeration effects and their influence on development of the municipality),
- the economy and development of municipalities – agglomeration effects as a source of development of the municipalities, applications of system dynamics in the Balanced Scorecard of municipalities, the simulation of dynamic models,
- fiscal relations between the multilevel public finance and fiscal decentralization, the issue on the budgetary allocation of taxes,
- the analysis of the spending needs of municipalities in the Czech Republic and their optimization,
- the cooperation with individual local authorities in solving specific problems related to the financing of municipalities and further problems with the quality of the performance of municipalities (process management, benchmarking, CAF), etc.

- the analysis of the institutional aspects of macroeconomic and microeconomic activities, especially the issue of informal institutions and their impact on the functioning of the sectional markets and on the economic performance of organizations, companies and territorial units,

- the economic aspects of the application of the ethics in economy with emphasis on the issue of corruption,
- options for the evaluation and measurement of corruption and its costs, the efficiency of the anti-corruption policy on the effectiveness of different forms of interaction of private, public and civil initiatives in the region,
- economic aspects of labour markets with emphasis on the regional context,
- the impact of activities of the lower levels of government on macroeconomic stability of the state and macroeconomic management,
- the fiscal imbalance in the countries of the EU and its consequences,
- the quality of public finance and fiscal processes,
- the use of mathematical methods for searching economic phenomena.
Economic policies, the regional and spatial economics
- the assessment of the impact of ICT on the economy from macroeconomic and also regional perspective,
- the analysis of the efficiency of different types of economic policies, the success of common economic policies on the basis of the cohesion of integration groupings,
- the monitoring of perceptions, position and the importance of venture capital in key states (the USA, Israel, the EU states) as a limiting element of innovative entrepreneurship in the economy,
- the regionalization of indicators of economic performanceregarding the quality of the environment,
- economic aspects of armed conflicts, terrorism and extremism,
- the cluster as a form of cooperation between private and public sectors, especially the efficiency of state aid, ways of the analyzing of the potential of the region suitable for the cluster formation,

Finance and banking
- the analysis of the impact of the financial crisis on the banking sectors in the selected EU countries,
- the impact of the implementation of the BASEL III on the European banks, bankruptcy models and expectations, risks,
- bank crises and public finance – the modelling of the systematic risk and the stress testing on the macro level,
- the impact of foreign ownership of banks on their performance and on the indebtedness of states,
- financial markets, their integration, regulation, failure, the future and the status of the central banks,
- financial derivatives and their future,
- the development of the economy depending on the monetary system,
- the accumulation of finance and their distribution (the redistribution models).
As far as the scientific and research programmes are concerned, the Institute of Economic Science participates in the solution of the Faculty research plan, in the internal grants of the University of Pardubice, and in nationwide projects dealing with the financing and financial cashflows of communities and regions. The results are published in monographs, scientific literature and at conferences in the Czech Republic, as well as abroad.
