eng The Sustainability of Fiscal Discipline under the Fiscal Decentralization in EU Countries The submitted text focuses on the analysis of the potential pitfalls of the fiscal decentralization in relation to sustaining fiscal discipline in the countries of EU. This work does not question the benefits of the fiscal decentralization usually presented in the literature dealing with fiscal federalism, but reminds of the potential dangers, which have to be regarded when evaluating the fiscal decentralisation: the issue of the strategic behaviour of the subnational governments and of the moral hazard, the difficulty of sustainable fiscal policy in the decentralised fiscal systems. This work also describes approaches and fiscal rules most frequently in use to ensure the fiscal discipline in particular European countries.
