Článek zmiňuje zánik složitých fortifikačních systému v období průmyslové revoluce resp. v době do konce 19. století. Metodologicky je článek založen na analýze historických údajů, jejich deskripci a komparaci s obecnými metodologickými přístupy v oblasti analýzy vývoje stavby měst.	město; bezpečnost; vývoj stavby měst
eng	Cities and their security in historical restrospective	This article is focused on analysis of defensive functions and systems of towns and its development. The paper describe those systems from pre-historic period, ancient times (e.g. Sumer´s, Egyptian´s, Minoan´s, Greece?s and Roman´s civilisation) via medieval and modern period (mainly baroque) fortifications. The article represents also the extinguishment of complicated systems of fortification during the period of Industrial Revolution e.g. in the term of end of 19th century. From the methodological point of view is the article based on analysis of historical data, their description and comparison with common methodological approaches on the field of town building history.	town / city; security; urban building history
