eng	Selected problems of actuarial demography	The construction of a new life table in life insurance companies is rather more complicated process. The main problem is the adjustment of the observed rates to produce smooth decrement rates which are accurate estimates of the underlying mortality. The adjustment procedure that reduces the random errors in the observed rates as well as smoothing them is known as graduation. The article describes and present applications of the methods of graduations based on observed mortality data using Excel and statistical package Statgraphics Centurion XV.	graduation;life table;mortality
